School Safety

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by the tragedy that took place on Friday.

Please be sure to read your email from Mr.Whan and Kerry Birmingham sent yesterday regarding school safety measures at Bemis and throughout the Troy School District.  Let's continue to provide a safe learning environment for our children and community by doing our part as parents and volunteers including being vigilant of our surroundings, ensuring our children are at school on time and picked up on time, signing in at the front office every time and wearing name badges.

Bemis Directory

The Bemis Directory is now available! New look and added features this year! Larger size, email addresses, class schedules, ads, and index. Special Thank YOU to Marianna Perakis and Cecilia Wagner for all their efforts and hard work in getting this published!

Mock Election

 

 

A Mock Election was held at Bemis today. Parent volunteers turned the LGI room into a Bemis voting precinct. Voting booths were designed by Jieun and ballots were created. Each student had an opportunity to cast their vote. They learned about citizenship and the importance of their future vote.

They also received a sticker and a treat :)

Drumroll Please....

The Jog-A-Thon Awards Assembly took place on Friday, October 19th.  A surprise guest--PAWS (the Detroit Tigers mascot) celebrated the success of all the students.

Jog-A-Thon 2012-Thank YOU!

 

THANK YOU to all the Parents, Teachers, Staff, Students, Sponsors and Volunteers for making this year's Jog-A-Thon a huge success!  The event was held on Friday, October 5th.  The kids had a great time walking, skipping, hopping, running and listening to the tunes by DJ Joe Spiteri.

Room Parent Orientation & PTO 101

On Thursday, 9/27, there will be a Room Parent Orientation for all the room parents. It will begin at 9am in the cafeteria.  Following will be "PTO 101" at 9:30am.  This is open to all chairs, room parents, and anyone that would like to learn more about the ins and outs of the PTO.

Jog-A-Thon is on Friday, October 5th!

The annual Jog-A-Thon will be held on Friday, October 5th.  The Jog-A-Thon is the PTO's main fundraiser and the children will hop,skip, run, walk around the tracks to raise funds for Bemis.

We need  many volunteers to ensure a successful event.  Go to the link to volunteer for a time slot and a specific job (even if you have already submitted the volunteer form).

Curriculum Nights and Back to School Safety Tips

Curriculum Nights will be held on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Be sure to stop by the PTO information table to learn more about the PTO, sign up to volunteer, check out the Spiritwear, or drink a coffee and have a snack!

Back to School Safety Tips: The National Safety Council offers Back to School Safety Tips on their website. They have a back to school safety checklist that you can review important safety procedures (i.e. transportation safety, playground safety, backpack safety) with your children to get them prepared for the school year.

Welcome!

Welcome Bemis Families to the start of the new school year!  Doesn't the landscaping look beautiful? (Thanks Carmen and site committee!)

Today the PTO provided a Welcome Back Breakfast for the Teachers and Staff to enjoy.

A Huge Thank You to all the volunteers that helped stuff 500 + first day folders: Barbara, Shelley,Pam,Joan,Jayashree,Gowri,Lata,Usha,Changlin,Cara,Vicki,Kendra,Marianna,Tushar,Priti,and Terri. ThankYou to Lisa for getting it all ready to go! The group set a record--500 + folders done in 1.5 hours :)

 

 

This afternoon was Meet and Greet with the teachers .The PTO also provided a "Kindergarten/New Family" Welcome.  The purpose of the program was to provide new families with information about the PTO and to connect them with a Parent Ambassador.  The Parent Ambassador's role is to be a resource and support person during their first year at Bemis.  We had over 160 in attendance-great turnout! Thank You to our awesome Parent Ambassadors for providing info, tours, answering questions, and connecting and welcoming our new families. Thank You Carol, Barbara, Ramya, Vicki, Kendra,Janice,Heather,Rosa,Kristen,Marianna,Cara!

 



Bemis PTO presents Bemis DAZE

Bemis PTO presents Bemis DAZE this Friday! Weather outlook is 72 and partly sunny for this funfilled event. The outdoor event will have bouncy houses, obstacle course, carnival games, ice cream, karaoke, pizza, and more! Join the fun! Hope to see you there.

May Cultural Coffee Morning

On May 11th, Bemis PTO held another Cultural Coffee Morning. Thank you to our hosts for having the event. This month's theme was about the culture and customs in India. The students and parents were very engaged in learning all about India and enjoyed some delicoius treats.
